The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 乔纳森真是英年早逝，他的困境是时间，他的好朋友都在最好的年华相继去世，谁也不想在30岁还一事无成吧。可惜好歌不多，我最喜欢的一首是和朋友一起清唱的《波西米亚》。
米兰达也许会拍一部只在舞台上演出的音乐剧，但他并不会拍电影，影像不是音乐、独白、台词的补充，MV都不至于如此。更别提那些政治正确的符号，实在差劲。还是看看斯皮尔伯格的《西区故事》会拍成什么样吧。
反观主角，难于两立真实生活（工作、朋友、恋人）和梦想（烙印DNA的音符、止不住的才华喷涌），矛盾疯狂摩擦出缤纷的音色。艺术源自生活，只是这里更应附带一句：“艺术来源于挫折”。永远无法被制作出的《Superbia》象征着年轻岁月才华最后的燃烬，唯遗憾造就究极的艺术，用来形容Jonathan再合适不过。

太爱这部电影了，加菲我是夸累了。
在很多部影视作品中，90年代总是显得如此具有悲情色彩。真的很喜欢rent的seasons of love，观剧时明明自己之前完全不知道这部剧的内容，听到这首歌时感觉全身毛孔都打开了。
“到达一个年龄后，就不再是偶尔端盘子的创作者，而是幻想创作的服务员了” 被年龄焦虑和才华怀疑戳中！
其实我是很能体会Michael的，我也不过是一个理想败倒在生活面前的人。向生活服了软，听了劝，平平淡淡，循规蹈矩生活一场。不再觉得从事自己喜欢的行业就是一件幸福的事，大抵是聊胜于无的安慰多于喜好带来的幸福，也似乎可以理所当然为自己并不出众的天赋而开脱。

有个很喜欢ttb的朋友哈哈哈 刷了好多遍音乐剧当然是为了集卡的那种忠粉 还挺想看的/1.3今年第一部 隔离的时候看的 我朋友说喜欢larson的话会喜欢这个 然后说看过影版也不需要去看音乐剧了 还挺喜欢这个故事的 所以说打动我的还是这个故事 给我哭的眼泪哗哗的 看完就很想去看rent 而且剪辑确实非常纯熟 妥妥的商业片 然后倒数的声音真的会让人有种很急迫的感觉 就想着时间一点点在流逝 如果现在不做就来不及了
去年mark到今年终于补上了，音乐剧真迷人，加菲演得真好真灵动，最喜欢&印象最深刻的居然是那首吐槽人们为什么要浪费钱去餐厅吃饭的sunday……无效评论1）主角在deadline最后一刻公寓停着电的高压下才写出最重要的一首歌，还一直拖延女朋友的质问，就此和头同学展开了“良好时间管理和创作者的灵感是否可以两全”的讨论；2）加菲和石头姐作为我眼中最适合的文艺前couple（和长久的意难平），各自演了一部歌舞片，两个片中还都与他俩的恋情有千丝万缕的联系，想想更意难平了；3）一直觉得唱歌女孩声音熟悉，全程疑惑这种声线的女孩是不是都长这样，看到最后才想起是歌舞青春的女主，how time flies~
2021M102/10 对妥协的傲慢，这种不屈就，是永动机的能量来源。太爱《傲慢》里的几首曲子，太想完整的看这部剧。每当作者的思想如电锯般迸溅出火花时，就迫不及待把自己迎上去，看到外壳破绽开一个个焦黑火红的洞并渐渐燎原扩大，那感觉，痛并快乐着！
非常喜欢这个“30岁生日”的故事，而自己也即将到达这个关卡。而立之年，一地碎渣，甚至看不清未来，这样的人生还有多少意义？
