The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 所有人都在质疑权力的腐败，只有一个地方的人相信他们的权力是天下最善良最正义的存在。最近几年印度电影在对本土社会问题的批评上，很像本世纪初以后的韩国电影，非常生猛。不见得电影是否真能改变什么现实，这本不是它的责任，但于电影本身，它走在了理应承担的价值追求上。也许再过十年，印度电影会像韩国电影那样，迎来一个商业和艺术上的爆发期。

这部影片从头到尾嗨得有点过度，而且明显的bug不少，比如打电话商谈阴谋，绝对是无脑之举。警察杀4名嫌疑人那幕，明显智商不在线。法庭上的戏也有些多，尤其开始辩护律师扯得有点离题太远。好的是印度电影总敢拿些敏感问题做文章，不好的是剧情漏洞多，演员过于激情，表演痕迹太重。
汉克斯演技自不必说，狗狗是个惊喜，把对机器人的嫌弃演得活灵活现。
不得不说汤姆汉克斯虽然已经六十多岁了依然是实打实的演技派。
让提出问题的人闭嘴的政治，让指责的人戴上手铐的政治，但无论你如何试图让他们闭嘴，无论你把他们关进哪座监狱，都会有人提出问题，而且必须有人回答

四分的故事，两分半的编剧，两分的导演。太多的蒙太奇段落、太多的升格镜头、太多的音乐，整部影片被导演处理得宛如巨型的trailer。故事充满翻转本是有意思的，而叙事策略却很低幼以及直白，每一次翻转几乎全是一股脑由人物说出来的。故事大可以聚焦在警察与律师之间，法庭上的对手，背后却是要一起揭发真相。影片最好看的也是1h18m开始的法庭戏，当律师一个个传唤证人，带出印度种族问题时，不仅由于这是一大场结结实实的戏，更重要的是振聋发聩在印度非常有价值的表达。影片另一个问题是表达过多：政治阴谋、种族歧视、女性权益、媒体不良、学术腐败等等，而最后貌似又都归结于一场政治阴谋，事实上还是种族问题在印度更具话题意义吧。teaser及尾声对律师人设的交代非常学生作业感，完全插不进叙事主体，只留于生硬的交代。

又是厚厚的剧本呀，将三个事件串联，虽然庭审戏份很燃，很有力量，还是偏舞台剧式了一点，比较刻板。不过这种电影的共情力就是很强的，加上印度电影中总是富有信念感的群戏，就会把这份共情愈加放大。电影还是不错的。
22-130. 印度電影總能給我帶來驚喜。主題很複雜，涉及到高校教授以公謀私，執法者背叛道德底線，權利掌控者腳踩他人上位，以及復仇者的鳳凰涅槃，沒有頭重腳輕的感覺，總體而言糅雜得很到位。主線本來以為是一個警察不惜堵上自己的職業生涯為民除暴的故事，卻沒想到最後居然是官官相護，同流合污，一場自導自演的審判笑話。他破壞尸體，聯合媒體操控輿論的時候有想過後果嗎？命令JC暴力攻擊手無寸鐵的學生，在那一刻，他有猶豫過嗎？自己的孩子被傷害，受害者的母親坐在他旁邊安慰，他有感到愧疚嗎？當丟失了良心的執法者操縱起輿論來，比一般人更可怕。律師的復仇更是看得我目瞪口呆，律師的故事甚至可以單獨拍一集。
一个现代社会，居然一宗凶杀案究竟是恶意车祸还是qj案都分不清就开始定罪，真是太可笑了。影片主旨不是案件而是种姓制度和严重社会问题。

没啥动作场面，科幻也只是背景，一个有点温暖的故事
标准的宝莱坞流水模式，开头我以为重看了旧片子，连配乐都如此类似。但正如高赞评论，至少人家还能拍电影含沙射影。
好糟糕劣质的节奏…不是好电影，哪里体现了敢讲？ 就像是营销号的知识量，也就糊弄天朝电影爱好者，大清都亡了！还闭着眼。
故事和反转非常精彩，内容深刻，发人深省，涵盖的主题从女性到媒体到正义到真相，再到制度，涵盖之广，令人嗔目，值得学习。但影片本身质量一言难尽，逻辑上bug到离谱，庭审上俩律师各说各的就离谱，剪辑叙事毫无水平可言，像是一篇全靠配乐烘托的大型PPT。
